One thing all conscious beings have in common is the ability to experience and display emotion. Two factors get this energy into motion – love and fear. All species, from mammals to plants, generate emotion through both. Fear propels us to shut down for protection and, when faced with danger, towards destruction. Love opens us to creation.

I recently saw a video of dancing sunflowers. First, I was surprised that sunflowers danced and then amused by the reason offered. Some scientists believe they dance to allow themselves and others to share in the sunlight. (1)

Ok, so not only do they dance, but they are considerate, too? Beautiful. I wasn’t surprised by a plant’s consciousness. Several experiments have shown their ability to respond deliberately to external stimuli. However, learning that they dance in the face of possible sunlight deprivation and share with others nearby indicates that the ability to emote is a superpower. Instead of sunflowers allowing fear to be in the driving seat, they opt for joy to dance and share.

So, are we, humans, missing something? Are we using our dominant ability and emotion correctly? Or are we all wrong?

If yes, how do we put our energy to better use?

Note: This is not a rhetorical question. I’m asking this question for answers. I would like to expand my perspective.
