As a writer, you already know writing is 10% Creativity and 90% Research. As a result, when looking for information online, a lot of websites pop-up through search engines.
While searching for the origin of the 5 Ws and 1 H (Who, What, When, Where, Why and How) using DuckDuckGo search engine; Wikipedia came up first, and in the content, there was a cute poem attributed to Rudyard Kipling:
I Keep six honest serving-men: (They taught me all I knew) Their names are What and Where and When And How and Why and Who. I send them over land and sea, I send them east and west; But after they have worked for me, I give them all a rest.
According to Wikipedia’s contributors, Kipling is not the originator of the 5 Ws and 1H, but he used the reference in his tale “The Elephant’s Child.”
Now, every good writer knows to verify their information by comparing and contrasting through a minimum of three independent sources.
Therefore, after using Wikipedia as a source for the quote in the Elephant’s Child, the search led me to look for the actual story which contained the quote.
It is there where Project Gutenberg Free Ebooks popped up in the search! More than 50,000 free eBooks are available to read online or download to your eReader. It is almost the lazy, hazy days of summer reading so get busy downloading your favorites. http://www.gutenberg.org/
