Outlaw Women

Dear Millennials/Gen Z women,

All I know is bodily autonomy.

Any other way of life is foreign to me. We’ve always had legal access to health care. Therefore, no one my age has ever had to perform self-surgery with household items. Silent generation and older baby boomer women shared those cautionary tales to remind us that we weren’t always free. And until today, women’s health care options have been federally protected. Unfortunately, this is uncharted territory for some of us older women.

We failed to keep your rights safe. I’m sorry.

But make no mistake; a woman will still choose her path. We always have. All the Supreme Court majority decision did was an attempt to create outlaws.

As Merriam Webster defines,” a person excluded from the benefit or protection of the law.”

So if it’s lawlessness the United States wants, it’s on. We got your back, young women, and we’ll follow your lead. It’s time for some #goodtrouble

MIDDLE AGE

If “30 is the new 20”, will we ever grow old?

Welcome to Middle Age.

I have two words of advice, “Let Go.”

Many of our family, friends and loved ones are turning 40. However, the 50s approach with a quickness. So, as you’re blowing out the candles on 40, be ready to release to the unknown. Loosen your grip on the familiar before getting to the other side of 50.

And here’s why.

In our youth, we contemplate physical and financial planning. We rarely think, if at all, about our body’s mortality or our mental and spiritual preparedness. We stop getting ready when we begin to grow our families. Some with young ones may not notice the years slipping away because our babies keep us tethered to a youth-oriented way of life. Others allow memories of their youth to keep reliving those glory days.

Instead, we should use those memories as stair steps to move up, over, and through the transformation.

Clinging to the past keeps us from transitioning into and being fully present in a new phase. Therefore, preparing to complete the shift is the key to aging mightily.

Not sure what it looks like to age without a presence of mind? Observe someone struggling with a process that already has an easy-button solution, and they refuse to use it because “This is how it’s always been done.” Not a good look, is it?

Instead, follow the inner light that guides us toward a new path of discovery. Remain open to using our imagination.

From the outside, it may look like a midlife crisis. But let’s unpack “crisis.” It unfolds, first, with denial, saying the 50s is the new 40s – but is it?

In our 40s, the drivers of our capitalistic society find us useful and beckon us to continue to participate in its trappings. Yet, if we’re honest, we notice that this lifestyle is unsustainable. If it’s impossible to continue on the path – the point becomes a crisis, also known as a turning point. At that moment, we move from doing what we’ve always done to not knowing what to do next.

The Next becomes a change of life.

And many might find it the most challenging part of life. But don’t despair. Hormones trigger our physical changes – but we have some control over our mental and spiritual metamorphosis. We can choose a mental resurrection and continue to evolve.

The challenge is letting go and accepting that we might emerge as someone unrecognizable to our former selves. Or surrendering to an ethereal existence. Kind of like the caterpillar, who lets go of its known life to become a new entity.

Welcome to middle age. Next stop, a new you awaits.

Chain of Fools – Weak Links Welcomed

Chain text messages usually warn of imminent danger. The sender convinces themselves the concept is out there, so they want to keep friends and family safe. But some recipients say, “don’t hit send;” instead, they want them to play the weakest link and break the chain.

The chain messages are never helpful. These warnings give incomplete information and never come from law enforcement in an official capacity. Still, we’re moved to act somehow because the content taps our emotions. Except, fear leads to confusion that can compromise our safety. Especially when the messages arrive during a crisis.

As we enter the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Omicron variant is on the rise; the Biden Administration announced on Wednesday, January 19, every family in the United States will be eligible to receive nonsurgical N95 face masks. According to the New York Times, 400 million nonsurgical N95 Masks will go to local U.S. retail Pharmacies and Community Health Centers. These masks come from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Emergency Strategic National Stockpile.

Yet, two days before the announcement, I received no less than two chain text messages. Both, including one that went to a group I am in, warning of chemically treated face masks.

According to the text warning, people would come to your home with an offer of free masks. These chemically treated face coverings would render the homeowner unconscious – and the intruders would proceed to rob your house. This chain text message has been shared globally since 2020, with law enforcement denouncing it in each of their jurisdiction.

A version of this story happened in Arlington Heights, IL *- but it occurred at the pandemic’s beginning. In 2020, home invaders wore surgical masks and rubber gloves and forced their way into a house. One of the intruders was reported shot to death, and the other was apprehended by authorities.

End of story.

When the chain message popped up again this month, The senders helped poison the well of rational thinking. In this case, some recipients are leery of the safety and security of any masks. Especially those being offered from “the GOVERNMENT.”

We can stop this mass hysteria.

Not sure what to do if you get a chain text message warning of impending doom and gloom? There is only one way to stop the spread of disinformation. Do not forward a message with incomplete information. It is propaganda used to influence or confuse the reader. Instead, ask yourself a few questions about the text.

  • Who was hurt?
  • What happened.
  • Where did it happen?
  • When did it happen?
  • Why did it happen,
  • and how did it happen?

Contact your local law enforcement agency if you can answer all those questions. Either they will issue an alert or provide you with the following steps to protect yourself and others.
